Leona Lewis plays Elena in the musical which exclusively features popular songs from the 80s like Katrina & The Waves' 'Walking on Sunshine' and George Michael's 'Faith'.
Critics have already labelled the musical as being the next 'Mama Mia'. True to other films of its nature, the film is set in Italy around the wedding of Maddie (Annabel Scholey) and her Italian boyfriend, Raf - her sister's old holiday flame and the man she believes to be the love of her life, as reported by Rachel MacGregor on Yahoo!
I'm a 'sucka' for musicals so I am undoubtedly looking forward to this film's release and of course to Leona's performance on-screen. Though she is playing a supporting role, I expect the X-Factor's winner's performance to be decent, if what we see in the trailer is anything to go by. I mean she's a music artist and this is a musical so I can expect at least that much right?
On the subject of her casting, Leona Lewis tells the Digital Spy
"It was something that just came along really, really quickly and this year my intention was to get refocused and re-inspired and it was perfect timing,"
"I have done a lot of theatre work before, but it was quite a few years ago so getting back into that was kind of scary.
"It gave me a chance to learn a lot from the people on set and for a lot of people it was their first movie as well, so we kind of felt the nerves together."
The musical is due to be released on June 27th.
