As soon as the sun makes an appearance for more than a few days in London, the calls of ‘it’s maxi dress weather’ strike the twitter world and the rest of social media. The excitement stems from women and men alike. The women, because we all know how good a maxi dress can make us look and feel, and the men? Well for the same reason. Women look gorgeous in maxi dresses and skirts and command the attention of men because of the stunning shape and feminine quality that the garments create.  Now that midi skirts and dresses have come into play too, maxis and midis are a firm favourite in a girl’s summer wardrobe.

If you have curves in all the right places, then showing them off in a fitted maxi or midi is the best way to go because you can achieve a sexy look but without exposing too much skin. Keep it simple yet classy with a block colour or utilise stripes and different prints. If wearing your midi or maxi as a skirt, then pair it with a cute crop top or vest.

If you prefer something less body skimming, then go for a maxi or midi that has a looser fit. A loose fitting garment means you can utilise more embellishments such as rouching and pleats. Wearing a maxi dress or skirt in a strong block colour such as black is a sure way to be a part of the trend. But if you want to break it up a little, invest in a maxi with a leg split. It’s sexy yet elegant.

A-line midi skirts are beautiful and really exude an air of femininity. They look great in white and pastel colours but if you really want to give them an edge, opt for a material like leather or PVC. Some A-line midis have a sheer panel which makes them look even better.

To individualise your maxis and midis, think about the material and cut of your dress or skirt. Chiffon is always great for summer because it’s light and looks lovely when slightly swayed by the breeze. Cut outs in a maxi dress is also a subtle way to show some skin.
