Awele's Diary: Bringing Awareness To Sickle Cell Anemia


Awele's Diary is a short documentary that tells the story of a young Nigerian girl, Awele and her struggle with Sickle Cell Anaemia. Directed by Ronke Ogunmakin, Awele gives us an insight into her life, her accomplishment and fears.

Sickle Cell Anaemia is an inherited blood disorder that affects people of the majority of African and Caribbean descent which perturbes their person's every day life and can cause the complications of a stroke, increased vulnerability to infection and more.

Awele has unfortunately passed 2 days ago and in a letter to editor of, Awele's shares her mission of wanting to bring awareness to the risk of sickle cell anaemia to unborn children when we disregard the disorder's genotypes in our partners' before getting married or when sexually involved.
