RED CARPET: Elegance Fest at the Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala 2014
Arguably the world's hottest fashion event, the Metroplitan Museum Costume Institute's (Met Ball) celebrated an 'old world elegance on the red carpet' as the focus of the ball was to pay tribute to Charles James - (known as) America's best couturier.
The event theme being 'White Tie and Decorations' meant the celebs had to raise their standards by wearing and exuding elegance in their appearances. In contrast to last year's punk rock theme, Beyonce looks a million bucks better in her beaded black dress and her black veil head piece. Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu remained true to the individual styles by adapting to ball's theme to their own interpretations. You can't help but to admire Badu's and Monae's power at playing by their own rules.
Amongst the early 20th century ball gowns with the slim waists and a powering skirt and trail, the likes of Zoe Kravitz, Chanel Iman and Rihanna wore outfits that exuded a modernised elegance - reflective of the current popular culture styles. Lupita Nyong'o usually gets is right, but her Josephine Baker inspired costume failed to have her on many of the fashion sites as one of the best dressed. But who cares right? She DOES usually get it right!
Here are some of our selected pictures from the event. You decide which outfit rocked or failed.
