Chimamanda Adichie Wins National Book Critics Circle Award

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s 'Americanah' is a powerful novel about race and love.


Americanah recounts the story of a Nigerian blogger (Ifemelu) who returns to her native land of Nigeria from the US to meet her childhood sweetheart (Obinze) and who are forced to make difficult choices as they encounter challenges.  The novel has been credited as being 'an incredibly readable and rich tapestry of Nigerian and American life' by Dave Eagers and as 'a courageous, world-class novel about independence, integrity, community, and love' 


Finalists in the category included Donna Tartt – The Goldfinch, Alice McDermott – Someone;  Javier Marias – The Infatuations and Ruth Ozeki – A Tale For The Time Being.
