Concerning Violence, narrated by Lauryn Hill

Just as London Film Festival 2014 starts this month; Göran Hugo, winner at the Berlin International Film Festival 2014 of the Cinema Fairbindet Prize and nominated for the Grand Jury Prize Sundance Film Festival 2014 – premieres the UK screening of the new film by Olsson (The Black Power Mixtape) due out 28th November. Based on the book by Frantz Fanon and narrated by Ms. Lauryn Hill, Concerning Violence uses archive footage to illustrate the African struggle from colonial rule. Inviting audiences into a bold and fresh visual narrative on Africa, Concerning Violence is based on newly discovered archive material covering the struggle for liberation from colonial rule in the late ‘60s and ‘70s. Both an archive-driven documentary it covers the most daring moments in the struggle for liberation in the Third World, as well as an exploration into the mechanisms of decolonisation through text from Frantz Fanon’s The Wretched of the Earth. Fanon’s landmark book, written over 50 years ago, is still a major tool for understanding and illuminating the neocolonialism happening today, as well as the violence and reactions against it.

Coming to UK cinemas soon, Concerning Violence is set to be an insightful and historically educating visual, this is one screening to attend!
