Fashion Flashback: Wireless 2014 - whose fashion piece rocked this year?
It was not only music that’s making the headlines at Wireless 2014. Festivals are the perfect place to experiment with your outfits, to bring out those statement pieces that you haven’t come around to wearing yet. With many festivals taking place during the spring/summer period, your creativity cannot seize, just like the following looks sported at this years Wireless Festival. Regardless of Kanye’s 20-minute self centred speech or the wet weather at Birmingham’s Wireless there were many fashionistas and celebs that had fun with their music and their fashion. Many whom attended stuck with classical pieces that are traditionally expected at festivals such as ripped shorts, exotic prints and loose fitting clothes. However once put together these pieces can achieve that typical 90’s look which is currently trending this summer. Black was the new black at Wireless 2014, with celebs such as Jourdan Dunn wearing a black oversized tee with ripped shorts and black sneakers. Ella-Eyre wore monochromatic pieces. Her outfit mirrored 3.1 Phillip Lim at spring 2014, based on structure and BCBG Max Azria on colour and patterning. This black and white palette was also seen at both Kenzo and A’Detacher in their spring/summer RTW 2014 collection.
The sporty look never fails; it’s a carefree way to look stylish without going over the top. Emeli Sande and Iggy Azalea achieve this look by again keeping things simple with monochrome pieces. DKNY spring/summer 2014 collection included athletic looks, with some 90’s references. Colours made an appearance, as Alesha Dixon decided to take the feminine route by wearing a long, halter neck maxi dress with a 70’s psychedelic print. Gucci has, also covered this classic look, in their spring/summer 2014 collection. Alongside Rita Ora whom also wore a maxi dress completely covered with splotches of illuminating colours.
Ora rocked both on and off stage, as she wears a matching crop top and A line skirt with a artistic stroke print, seen at both Celine and Acne in their Spring/Summer 2014 runway.
Based on these looks a lot of managed to look stylish whilst staying comfortable, because at the end of the day it really was all about the music, and it all had nothing to do with fashion. Right? By Gloria Agbajor
