A Spiritual science behind sex
Sex is as old as the universe as we may know it and perceive it itself, but before I get into the science behind sex I feel it is very important to define sex itself. Sex is the union and merging of the masculine and feminine energies within the universe, sex exists in everything. Sexual energy is the primal and creative energy of the universe. All things that are alive come from sexual energy. There is no part within nature where sex is not a part of; the coming together of the masculine and feminine energies in order to bring about a continuum is what sex is essentially about. Although sex is found in all paths and avenues of nature I will be primarily just speaking about the science behind sex within human beings.
Sex conditions us physiologically and psychologically
As we are well aware sex is highly important in human life, for sex has brought us into being, it shapes and permeates our existence, and it influences and shapes our identity, our family and cultural existence. It conditions us physiologically and psychologically, which goes on to affect our environment and our philosophical beliefs, as a matter of fact sex is pretty much connected to everything that we do and who we are as human beings. In any situation when and where we feel attraction, arousal, awakening, alertness, passion, interest, inspiration, excitement, creativity, enthusiasm, enlightenment in each of these situations, sexual energy is at work.
Sex is the source of all life and the expression of love
Sex provides an effective vehicle to know ourselves and enjoy our own sensuality and sexuality in our physical bodies. Sex is the most intimate and sacred way of relating to each other, sex signifies and qualifies many of our attitudes, emotions and our experiences. Hence we find sex permeating and coming through the vehicles of music, dance, poetry and films, even to the extent where our poets, musicians and film stars are held as sex icons. Sex totally merges with our personality and our character; it matches with our age, attitude, philosophies and cultures. Essentially speaking sex is the source of all life and the expression of love. There cannot be sex without love and there is no love without sex, the two cannot be separated the two are interwoven, one ceases to exist without the other. When we as human beings begin to be much more aware of these concepts then we become able to scratch the surface of the science behind sex.
During sexual intercourse, there is union between flesh and spirit, the physical and the divine
The science behind sex is love itself, this is what we as human beings are all yearning for, the ultimate love, heaven, the Garden of Eden, Paradise, Nirvana, the great mother are some of the names that it is known for. Essentially it's a yearning to return back to the source from which we all came. During sexual intercourse, there is union between flesh and spirit, the physical and the divine. Sex is the way of reaching to the godhead and higher consciousness, but one thing must be noted, it’s the way in which we may go about it or seek it is and can be very questionable.
People have sex for pleasure and fun, some because they wish to procreate, for some sex is a way of maintaining and gaining power, for love and others use sex as a way of religious/spiritual rituals
We are all aware different people for different reasons will go to various extends and extremes through the mode of sex, and even though it may seem that people have sex for different reasons actually when we analyse and realise the true essence of what is taking place, we see that the purpose and the goal is the same. For example; many people have sex for pleasure and fun, many people have sex because they wish to procreate and have children, for some people sex is a way of maintaining and gaining power i.e. money or other material things, for some people sex is a way of feeling wanted or loved by the opposite sex, some people use sex as a way of religious/spiritual rituals, but regardless of the reason essentially one is trying to connect and reach for something greater than the self.
All cultures in different forms have contributed … to this very kind of sexual activity. From the sacred sexual rites in ancient Egypt to the Arabian Nights, Tantra, and the Kama Sutra in India
Sex is a means of escaping our little self or ego, but is many peoples only experience of meditation, but we use different vehicles and do it in different ways. All cultures in different forms have contributed in some way or another, to this very kind of sexual activity. From the sacred sexual rites in ancient Egypt to the Arabian Nights, Tantra, and the Kama Sutra in India are all more or less, touching on this as being the deeper meaning or true goal of those works. Sex is a spiritual act and is spiritual itself. Hence why sexuality and spirituality are very closely related in several ways, all spiritual teachings and schools of thought have their various views and philosophical ideologies of what and how sex should be conducted. Even the idea of celibacy for priests, nuns and monks is to spiritualise sexual energies as in meditation, rituals and other devotional practices. While this generally involves conscious exercises as in practices such as yoga, Judeo-Christian mystics commonly transformed their energies without conscious awareness through intense devotion.
The true science behind sex and sexual intimacy is the road to the taste or experience of true freedom
If religious celibates fight to suppress their sexuality, they misunderstand the deeper reason for the practice of celibacy, and may block their spiritual evolution on that level. If devotional practices do not lead to the transmutation of sexual energies then it is much better to find a natural outlet. Suppression always leads to problems. Many of these problems we have witnessed and seen in many religious quarters. All problems related to sex, neurosis, deviancy, sexual misbehaviour, violence, abuse can all be traced to ignorance, resistance, suppression and repression, not to the sexual urges themselves. If we are allowed to discover our true urges, desires and emotions, without outside inhibition, they won't go to extremes. Extremism, in any form, is a reaction to repression, inhibition and suppression. Aggression and violence are the shadow energies of fear and impotence. Sex becomes a problem when we mix hidden emotions such as shame, guilt and anger.
We should embrace and express our sexuality in the healthiest ways
The true science behind sex and sexual intimacy is the road to the taste or experience of true freedom, because it is the one area of life in which we can become completely uninhibited and free, and become one with our true selves and the universal source, the creator. In tantra, sexual union is seen as a sacred activity whose ultimate goal is self actualisation. In the tantric tradition, sex is utilised as a means to raise the flow of energy from the base of the spine to the crown chakra thus re-awakening one's dormant cosmic consciousness. Many people are totally unaware of what it is that they are trying to reach and obtain, they are totally aware of the urges and the drives but fail to realise the purpose and meaning of them.
Sex is the key to our eternal bliss and divinity
Every time we, as human beings are privileged to experience the organism we are truly experiencing a glimpse of the divine. So we should embrace and express our sexuality in the healthiest ways, and come to the realisation that nothing can exist within the universe without the concept, idea and the workings of sex. Sex is a wonderful, beautiful and glorious thing, and even much of the science behind sex is even still a mystery which is a beauty unto itself. Sex is the key to our eternal bliss and divinity.
